All You Have to Know about Inground Landscape Lighting

Apr. 19, 2024

LED inground lights play a vital role in illuminating homes and various public areas. They can be seamlessly installed in both the ground and walls, offering gentle ambient lighting that fosters a cozy evening atmosphere while elevating the visual appeal, safety, and practicality of outdoor spaces.

What are LED Inground Lights?

LED inground lights represent a specialized form of landscape lighting where the LED light source is situated beneath the ground or within walls. They are sometimes referred to as well lights in certain regions. With an IP67 waterproof rating and features such as leak protection, water resistance, resistance to aging, extended lifespan, and energy efficiency, they find extensive application in urban lighting projects, contributing to the vibrant nocturnal landscape of cities.

The Different Types of Inground Landscape Lights

1. Sort by Shape (round , square and linear/rectangular shape)

2. Sort by Power Source (Wired/Solar Powered)

Wired LED inground lights operate with a voltage range of 110V-240VAC and utilize LEDs as their light source. They typically feature a polished stainless steel or aluminum alloy exterior, along with high-quality waterproof connectors, silicone sealing rings, and tempered glass for waterproof, dustproof, leakage-proof, and corrosion-resistant properties.

Solar inground lights consist of components such as solar panels, LED chips, and batteries. They operate at voltages of 12V or 24V. (Please note that GRNLED does not manufacture solar inground lights.)

3. Sort by Beam Angle ( adjustable and directional one)

Adjustable inground lights, as their name implies, emit light in a specific direction. Therefore, when utilizing these lights, it's important to consider whether a reference point needs to be specified for light projection. Unlike standard inground lights, which emit light in a straight line spreading to both sides, adjustable inground lights utilize a lens to manipulate the direction of the light beam. The projection angle of adjustable inground lights can be modified by adjusting the angle of the inner core or by adding a polarizing lens, among other methods.

The newest inground lights come equipped with screws on the lamp housing for changing the beam angle, eliminating the need to dismantle the lamp body or pre-buried components. This feature offers great convenience and addresses the issue of water seepage caused by angle adjustments.

Inground Well Lights Colors

Inground lights are available in a variety of vibrant hues including red, yellow, blue, green, white, purple, RGB, and twinkling combinations, offering enchanting and captivating lighting effects.

Features of Inground LED Lights

Compact and stylish in design, these inground lights boast leak-proof and waterproof properties.

With an exceptionally long lifespan, they rarely require bulb replacements unless due to unforeseen accidents, ensuring years of uninterrupted use after installation.

They consume minimal power, resulting in reduced electricity bills.

Utilizing high-efficiency and energy-saving LED technology, they offer bright illumination, low energy consumption, extensive coverage, and prolonged durability.

Crafted from non-combustible materials, both the shell and panel of the lamp ensure safety, while the internal wiring features flame-retardant wires capable of withstanding temperatures exceeding 125°C.

How to Install Inground Lights?-A Step by Step Guide

Attention:

1. Before installing, ensure to cut off the power supply. This is the initial and essential step for the safe installation of any electrical product.

2. Organize all components that come with the fixtures before commencing installation. LED inground lights are specialized landscape fixtures buried underground. Missing components during installation can lead to complications later on. Hence, thorough preparation before installation is necessary.

3. Dig a hole according to the shape and size of the embedded parts, and secure them with concrete. Embedded parts serve to isolate the main body of the LED underground light from the soil, ensuring their prolonged lifespan.

4. Prior to installing LED inground lights, prepare an IP67 or IP68 junction box to connect the external power supply input with the power line of the light body. Additionally, the power cord of the LED underground light should utilize a waterproof power line certified by VDE to guarantee the longevity of the fixture.

How to Address the Waterproofing Challenge of LED Underground Lights:

1. Housing: Die-cast aluminum shells are commonly used for their waterproof properties. However, the density of the housing can vary based on the casting method employed. To resist long-term exposure to water and temperature fluctuations, a housing thickness exceeding 2.5mm is recommended, along with the use of a powerful die-casting machine for casting.

2. Glass Cover: Tempered glass, of adequate thickness, is preferred to prevent breakage and water infiltration due to thermal expansion, contraction, or external impacts.

3. Heat Dissipation: LED inground lights generate considerable heat, necessitating effective heat dissipation to prevent condensation and thermal stress. Ensuring a contact area of over 80% between the housing and LED is crucial, and additional features like breathing vents and heat sinks can be incorporated.

4. Embedded Parts: Positioning embedded parts higher can help prevent excessive water from entering the lamp body.

5. Sealing: LED lights are sealed using potting material, with thermal conductive silicone applied to the top of the fixture. Proper sealing and waterproofing of the connection between the glass cover, gasket, and drilled screw joints are essential, constituting a triple sealing process for waterproofing.

6. During Installation: Start by securing the embedded parts before affixing the fixture to them. Avoid disassembling the internal structure of the light during installation.
